About ‘Third Thursday’ Wine and Food evenings.
These evenings are aimed at people who enjoy
wine and would like to learn more. The evenings
consist of a tutored tasting of at least 7 wines
conducted by Northern Wine Academy staff or a guest
speaker. Our staff are all accredited by the Wine and
Spirit Education Trust and are chosen for their
knowledge and enthusiasm. The evenings are relaxed and
informal we want you to share our passion for wine not
bamboozle you with jargon.
Many
wines taste so much better with food so we have
included a one course substantial hot supper plus
coffee in the ticket price. The dish will be prepared
by the chef at Melton’s Too in consultation with
Northern Wine Academy to perfectly complement the
selection of wines tasted. If you require a vegetarian
meal please let us know at the time of booking.
The
evenings are equally suitable for singles, couples and
groups of friends as everyone is encouraged to
participate and let us know what they think about the
wines. You may book for one evening or an entire
course.
All
evenings start at 7.30p.m. and finish at around
9.30p.m. The cost for one evening is £29.50 or book
and pay for all 5 at the same time for £135.
Numbers are strictly limited to 25 per evening so
early booking is advisable.
Thursday 21st February – Organic and
Biodynamic Wines
We are used to eating organic food but what
about our wines? Organic and biodynamic wines have now
gone mainstream from Californian Chardonnay to
stunning Italian Chianti we taste our way through and
range of wines.
Along the way we will discuss what it meant by organic
and biodynamic wines.
Thursday 20th March – An Antipodean
Adventure
Our Australian evenings always sell out
quickly so please book early for our tour of the
Barossa, Clare Valley and Tasmania.
Thursday 17th April – New Zealand
A couple of hours and a world apart from
Australia we explore the wines of New Zealand. Cloudy
Bay was the wine which really put New Zealand wines on
the map.
You decide if it is still the best of the bunch as we
blind taste it against other Marlborough Sauvignon
Blancs.
Thursday 15th May – Champagne and
Sparkling Wine
Can you tell Vintage from Non Vintage
Champagne, New World Sparkling from Cava?
We learn about how sparkling wine is made, discuss
whether it’s worth paying extra for well known brands
or should you stick to small producers. We also try
some English Sparkling wine.
Thursday 19th June – Spain
We finish our spring programme of events with
a selection of Spanish wines from Rioja, Penedes,
Galicia and Ribero del Duero accompanied by a
selection of tapas.
